A Story
The man realizes his mental health has been terrible lately.
He lost his therapist and medication quite a while ago, and realizes he should do something to take care of himself.
So he decides to cool it with the social media for a while.
He posts almost nothing for months, very occasionally popping in to share about a book or an album, but nothing else really.
After months, he realizes he hasn’t heard from his friends outside of North Portland in some time.
He baby-steps his way back on to social media.
He reposts a couple of memes. He was, at one time, good at sharing memes. People liked the memes he shared.
He shares a couple that made him chuckle.
In his time away, he’d forgotten that sharing anything online is like walking through a field filled with live mines.
He’d also forgotten how thin his skin is.
He forgot that responses to silliness are occasionally framed as character attacks.
He panics a little.
He feels himself start to spiral.
He goes on a very long run. By the time he gets back, he's too tired to be anxious anymore.
He hides the social media apps from his home screen.
He'll try again in six months.
Looks at calendar oh cool, six months is right around election time. People are famously chill, gentle, and understanding on social media during election time.
This was a weird post.
Anyway check this out! My co-pastor wrote a book!
He almost died eight years ago falling off of Oregon’s largest mountain.
He healed quite a bit physically.
And then his life fell apart.
I read it last week. Very moving. Super intense at times.
You def should read it when it's out later this year.
