Terror
History really does rhyme sometimes
This week while writing a sermon, I’m reading a lot about the Massacre of the Innocents1, when Herod ordered his guards to find and kill every boy under two years old.
Forcing themselves into the lives and homes of people with children.
Destroying vulnerable families.
Doing the bidding of their king who gave the order.
I was just told an hour ago that yet again, ICE is back in our neighborhood, patrolling around schools.
Forcing themselves into the lives and homes of people with children.
Destroying vulnerable families.
Doing the bidding of the president who gave the order.
Different stories.
Different circumstances.
But boy, do they feel similar.
I don't understand how some Christians can talk in church about the horrifying nature of Herod’s massacre, while simultaneously praising ICE’s efforts outside of schools and Home Depots.

Before you get all uppity and excited, yes I'm aware that the historicity of the story is suspect. Thanks.
